How to pay your phone or internet bill

A plain-English guide to paying your bill with Telstra, Optus, and other Australian providers. We explain the process and link you straight to each provider's official payment page.

Important: Plan Compass does not process bill payments or hold your account, card, or bank details. Every "Pay now" link below takes you to the provider's own official website. Always check the address bar matches the provider before entering any payment details.

Paying your Telstra or Optus bill

  1. Find your account details. Have your Telstra account number or mobile number ready — it's on your latest bill or in the My Telstra app.
  2. Log in to My Telstra. Use the official My Telstra app or telstra.com.au — this is where your real balance and due date are shown.
  3. Choose a payment method. Telstra accepts credit/debit card, PayPal, BPAY, and direct debit through their own payment system.
  4. No account or can't log in? Telstra also offers a guest bill payment option using just your account number — available on their official site.

  3. Choose a payment method. Optus accepts card payments, BPAY, and direct debit set up through their own account portal.
  4. Trouble logging in? Optus provides a "pay without login" option on their official site using your account number and postcode.

Common payment methods explained

These apply across most Australian providers, not just Telstra or Optus.

BPAY

Pay through your own bank's app or website using the biller code and reference number printed on your bill.

Direct debit

Set up once with your provider so your bill is paid automatically from your card or bank account each cycle.

Card payment

Pay a one-off amount using a credit or debit card, directly through your provider's app or website.

In-person / Post Billpay

Some providers let you pay in person at a store or post office using the Billpay reference on your bill.

Pay without logging in

Most providers offer a guest payment option if you've forgotten your login — usually needs your account number.

Payment plans

If you're struggling to pay, providers have hardship or payment extension options — contact them directly to ask.
